Mansfield, Mass. - For the second time this season, Adelphi University women's soccer sophomore defender
Kayla Mushorn has been named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Mushorn has patrolled the right side of Adelphi's back line all season and, this week, helped lead a unit that kept the opposition off the scoreboard for all 200 minutes.
Her efforts last Wednesday (Oct. 27) limited the NE10's top scoring team -- No. 7 The College of Saint Rose -- without a goal across 110 minutes and to only two shots on target. The Golden Knights hadn't been held to that few of shots on goal in a single game at home since Oct. 2019.
Then, on Saturday (Oct. 30), Mushorn and the Adelphi defense stonewalled Assumption to the tune of only three shots on goal. She also played the cross in the waning minutes of regulation that led to
Maria D'Angelo's game-winning header with 4:17 left.
Mushorn's three assists this season rank among the Top 10 leaders in the conference and are tied with
Carly Issing for the team lead.
As Mushorn and the Panthers prepare to take the field today at 2 p.m. against Georgian Court, Adelphi has not allowed a goal in its last 3:26.14.
