Celebrating Ten Years in the NE10: Adelphi Joins a New Conference

Garden City, N.Y. - The 2019-20 season marked our 10th year in the NE10, and to celebrate that milestone, the Adelphi University Department of Athletics is looking back on some of its most iconic moments and accomplishments with the conference.

Over the past decade, the Panthers have won 35 NE10 regular-season championships and 30 NE10 Tournament titles, and made 94 NCAA Tournament appearances, with four East Region titles (two men's soccer, two softball) and six National Championships (women's lacrosse).

The Brown and Gold have also captured four NE10 President's Cups in that time -- the second-most of any school in the last 10 years. The NE10 President's Cup is an honor presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the league.

And as Adelphi is celebrating 10 years with the conference, the NE10 has launched a year-long celebration to commemorate 40 years of existence.

Adelphi was a founding member of the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (since renamed the East Coast Conference) in 1988 and spent 21 years in the ECC, before joining the NE10 in the 2009-10 academic year. The announcement was made official on July 1, 2009.

"This is an opportunity for Adelphi to align itself with similar academic and athletic institutions," said then-Adelphi Vice President and Director of Athletics Robert E. Hartwell. "We are also grateful that our teams will have full conference schedules, which will make it easier for our student-athletes to experience competitive contests. In addition, their non-athletic programs and accomplishments closely mirror our own."

The Panthers instantly became a juggernaut in the NE10 upon arrival. In their first year, the Brown and Gold won NE10 Tournament crowns in men's golf and women's lacrosse. Additionally, the women's lacrosse team claimed its second-straight NCAA Division II National Championship, behind a near-perfect 20-1 season.
