Garden City, N.Y. -
Chiwete Njokanma, a former men's tennis standout for the Panthers, has been selected as a recipient of Adelphi University's "10 Under 10" Award.
Njokanma will join a prominent group of fellow alumni that have been recognized for achieving professional success and making an impact in their communities.
The ceremony, which will be held virtually, is set to take place during Adelphi's Fourth Annual Spirit Weekend on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
The purpose of the "10 Under 10" Award is to spotlight the noteworthy and distinctive achievements made by alumni who earned a degree from Adelphi within the past 10 years.
Njokanma, a 2015 graduate of Adelphi, is currently the co-founder and CEO of FINT.
Based in Nigeria, FINT is West Africa's first peer-to-peer lender and financial technology company that bridges the credit gap in Africa through technology.
Njokanma's mission is to leapfrog Africans and African businesses into the new age through credit, investments and technology. He drives the companies' vision by increasing credit penetration through partnerships with businesses and raising capital from high net-worth individuals and institutional clients.
Aside from his day-to-day responsibilities as a business executive, Njokanma volunteers at the The Candlelight Foundation -- a not-for-profit organization that provides food and after-work education to the unemployed and underemployed young adults in his hometown of Lagos, Nigeria.
Njokanma was a four-year starter on the Adelphi men's tennis team from 2011-15. He was a three-time NE10 All-Conference selection and helped lead the Panthers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015, in addition to finishing his career with spectacular records of 46-20 and 49-24 in singles and doubles, respectively.
