Adelphi Athletics Formalizes Partnership with NYU-Winthrop Sports Medicine

9/4/2018 1:30:00 PM

Garden City, N.Y. - Having provided quality care for student-athletes for over a decade, the Adelphi University athletic department and the Sports Medicine Center at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center have made it official.

The orthopedic program based out of the Mineola, N.Y. hospital is now an official partner of Adelphi athletics, beginning with the 2018-19 athletic year. Under the direction of Dr. Mark Grossman, the team of health care professionals at NYU Langone Orthopedic Center have worked in close consult with the Adelphi athletic training staff since the early 2000s, and formally entered into an agreement which serves to provide unparalleled service to the student-athletes.

"Our partnership with NYU Langone allows us to meet our goal of providing the highest quality care for our student-athletes," said director of athletics Danny McCabe.

"The professionals at NYU Langone are leaders in rehabilitation and preventative care for athletes. This relationship and service from NYU Winthrop provides the students the opportunity to excel in all aspects of the student-athlete experience."

These responsibilities include treating and coordinating medical care of student-athletes, including office visits, on-site clinic hours and surgical needs. In addition, the NYU Langone Orthopedic Center medical team also provides care outside the regular season during playoff contests, assisting in treating both competing Adelphi athletes and competitors from other universities.

Each year, NYU Langone assists the Adelphi athletic training staff in caring for over 300 NCAA Division II athletes in 23 varsity sports.
