Hempstead, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team continued its fall off-season play at the Hofstra Invitational this weekend, competing against competition from across all three NCAA Divisions throughout the New York and tri-state area.
With play split across singles and doubles, as well as main draw and consolation brackets, the Panthers have several opportunities for competitive match play over the course of the two-day tournament.
Sophomore
David Leader reached the final of the consolation 'D' singles bracket, earning victories against opposition from SUNY Oneonta and his teammate
Connor Dove before falling to Alexandros Giannaktisidis of Division I Siena College, 8-4.
Leader's classmate
Luke Attride-Stirling was one of three other Panthers to win a match on the singles court over the course of the weekend, as he defeated Riley Smith of Oneonta in the first round of the 'C' singles main draw before falling to Shawn Jackson of the host Pride. Stirling also partnered
Ilya Kalabukhau to a 6-3 win over Ayman Khan and Tyler Lowe from Division I Sacred Heart in the 'B' doubles consolation bracket.
In addition, newcomer
Finn Krause also scored a win over Jack Clayton of Oneonta in the 'C' singles consolation bracket.
Rounding out the Panthers with consolation wins was
Alex Astilean and
Connor Dove, who made it five total wins for the Brown and Gold against opponents from Oneonta with an 8-4 first-round win over Kiran Narsipur, and an 8-5 win over Lucas Harland, respectively, in the 'D' singles consolation.
