Double First Place Finishes, Broken Record Highlight Swimming Double Dual Meet

11/9/2018 11:56:00 AM

Flushing, N.Y. - Among several first-place finishes and a broken record the Adelphi women's swim program defeated both Baruch College and Queens College Thursday evening, as the men suffered defeat from the Bearcats.

Freshman Crystal Zhang was responsible for a broken record in the victories, snapping Emma Brown's record from the Northeast-10 Conference championships last season in the 100 butterfly. The old stood at 1:00.48, but Zhang shaved off .20 seconds to set a new mark in the lanes (1:00.28).

Also on the women's side, Natasha Rice established herself as a double-first place finisher in both the 50 free (tied) and 100 back events. The two ladies along with Kristen Tzavelis and Ashley Danulevith were also responsible for helping the Brown and Gold to a top-time of 1:55.30 in the 200 yard medley relay, the first event of the evening.

The men, who only took on Baruch College, were set back with a 115-93 decision despite exceptional performances from Eian McKeon and Daniel Lee. Both were responsible for top-times in two events each as McKeon dialed in for a first-place result in both the 500 free and 200 IM events, while Lee won the 200 free and 100 free.

Alongside Lee, Zack Vreeland, Jack Wheeler and Brian Klotsche swam four seconds faster then the next group, posting a time of 1:44.77 in the 200 yard medley relay.

Both teams will compete at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday, November 10. The meet will be the first face-off between the Hawks and the Panthers, and will take place in non-traditional format. Events not included in conference meet line-ups, such as the 600-yard medley relay and 50-yard stroke events, are scheduled. To watch the meet live, follow @newpaltzhawks on Facebook.
