11/26/2018 10:35:00 AM

Garden City, N.Y. - Head coach Carla Campagna has finalized her first recruiting class at the helm of Adelphi softball, and the Panthers will welcome eight new athletes to their dugout next spring.

"We are extremely excited to welcome the class of 2023 - we have eight committed student-athletes that are very versatile and athletic," Campagna said of the group. "Their athleticism, power and potential will compliment our returning student-athletes, and each incoming student-athlete brings a unique set of skills that will add value and strength to our team. This class is loaded with athletic players that can play multiple positions. We did a great job identifying not only great athletes, but even better people who will represent the Adelphi community off the field as well. We're grateful to be able to welcome these young ladies to the Adelphi family."

Six of the eight players hail from the state of New York, with the other two hailing from New Jersey and Canada. Campagna's first recruiting class consists of Laurèn Shambo (Kingston, N.Y.), Taylor Eggert (Kings Park, N.Y.), Claire Fon (Shrub Oak, N.Y.), Daniella Roselli (Levittown, N.Y.), Molly Edge (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada), Megan McManus (Northfield, N.J.), Amanda Owens (Hyde Park, N.Y.) and Jacquelyn Gregorovic (Farmingdale, N.Y.).

Laurén Shambo (Kingston, N.Y.)
A combination infielder and outfielder, Shambo owns a career .370 average and .906 fielding percentage while also pitching for the Tigers. A Section 9 champion, in which she pitched a complete game, Shambo has earned MVP honors, the team's Heartbreaker Award for team leadership and intensity on and off the field and the Coaches' Choice Award in her prep career so far.

Campagna on Shambo: "Laurén is a versatile player who can play the infield and outfield. She has a strong frame and definitely has the ability to hit the ball hard and far as I project Laurén to be an impact in the middle of our lineup."

Taylor Eggert (Kings Park, N.Y.)
A 6-0 hurler out of Kings Park High School, Eggert owns an impressive high school and club resume for Long Island Chargers Gold. An All-Division (10th grade) and All-County (1th) selection, she was named the Suffolk County Small School Pitcher of the Year and to the All-Long Island Second Team by Newsday in her junior season. She threw three perfect games and five no-hitters in her junior year, while also hitting three home runs with 12 RBIs, and boasts a career ERA of 1.30 with nearly 500 strikeouts over the past two seasons. Academically, she has also excelled as a three-year Scholar Athlete, and has represented the United States in international softball against Italy and Greece.

Campagna on Eggert: "Taylor has a good pitching frame with long levers that allows her to have smooth mechanics. With losing two senior pitchers, I am confident that she will continue the success in the circle. She has enormous potential and brings powerful velocity to our talented pitching staff."

Claire Fon (Shrub Oak, N.Y.)
A 5-9 pitcher from Westchester County, Fon has been a three-time All-League selection in the circle for Lakeland High School. Her junior season was her banner year to date, as she was named the Class A Pitcher of the Year at the close of the 2018 season, while also earning All-Section honors. Fon boasts a career 0.90 ERA with 23 wins over 179 innings pitched with 239 strikeouts, and has held opponents to a .150 average in 85 games. She has also been named a Student Scholar for the duration of her prep career.

Campagna on Fon: "Along with Taylor, Claire is our second new arm that we feel will lead to a very bright future in the circle for AU. Claire's strengths are mixing speeds in the circle keeping batters off balance."

Daniella Roselli (Levittown, N.Y.)
A 5-6 corner infielder from Division High School, Roselli boasts a career average of .454 with 22 home runs and over 90 RBIs in her first three high school seasons. Twice named All-County and a member of Newsday's coveted Top 100 list of Long Island softball players, she led Long Island in home runs over the fence in her junior year, and will conclude her career this spring as a two-year captain for the Blue Dragons.

Campagna on Roselli: "I am very excited to have Dani part of the program. Her drive, commitment and passion for the game is off the charts. Dani's endless work ethic is what I love the most about her, as she is the all-around player and will bring power to our lineup."

Molly Edge (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada)
An outfielder from north of the border, Edge will join the Panthers following the conclusion of the career of current senior and fellow Canadian Kristin Fealy. A bronze medalist in softball and a silver medalist in women's baseball at the 2016 Canadian nationals, Edge in entering her third consecutive season as the captain of her Toronto Fastpitch Gold travel team.

Campagna on Edge: "Molly is a tremendous athlete with great potential. She hits from the left side, can hit away and can short game. She has great speed, range and versatility in the outfield. Her outstanding attitude and work ethic brings another element to the program which we are very excited for."

Megan McManus (Northfield, N.J.)
A four-year varsity player at Mainland High School, McManus is a career .345 hitter over the course of her first three varsity seasons with 58 hits, 58 RBIs, 10 doubles and 10 home runs with 40 runs scored. A First Team All-Conference selection behind the plate in 2018, she plays her travel softball for Philadelphia Spirit 18-U.

Campagna on McManus: "Megan is a great size athlete for the catching position. She has good fundamentals who will add depth behind the plate. She has the ability to hit for average, but will also be able to hit for power."

Amanda Owens (Hyde Park, N.Y.)
A three-year starting shortstop for Roosevelt High School in the Hudson Valley, the 5-3 Owens can also play both the infield and outfield on the diamond for both her high school and Ulster Fillies 18-U teams. The lefty hit over .400 in a starting role in her freshman and junior seasons. She has earned honorable mention honors from the Poughkeepsie Journal in each of her first three seasons, while also being named to the Second Dream Team by Hudson Valley Sports Report. A force in the classroom as well, Owens is also a three-time Mid-Hudson Athletic League Scholar-Athlete award winner.

Campagna on Owens: "Amanda is a lefty hitter who can bunt, slap or swing away while putting pressure on opponents with her speed.  Defensively, her athleticism and overall love of playing the game makes her someone I believe can be an impact player anywhere on the field."

Jacquelyn Gregorovic (Farmingdale, N.Y.)
A 5-8 utility player, Gregorovic plays her travel softball for the Farmingdale Greendogs, and is a three-sport athlete at Farmingdale High School. Named All-County in her junior season after earning honorable mention status in her first two years on the diamond, Gregorovic has also excelled on the volleyball and basketball courts, where she was named both All-Class and All-Conference.

Campagna on Gregorovic: "Jacquelyn's versatility and pure athletic talent makes her a terrific addition to our program. She will see time in the outfield and behind the plate as her diverse skill set will enable her to impact the Panther program."
