Garden City, N.Y. - The third-seeded Adelphi University men's tennis team was upset on Tuesday by the sixth-seeded Assumption College Greyhounds in the Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinals, 5-3.
Assumption took a 2-1 lead after doubles play, as seniors Chris Waung Marco Leung facedÂ
Matteo Cannavera andÂ
Uladzislau Litvinchuk at No. 1 doubles, and reversed the result from the regular season, winning 8-4. The Greyhounds recorded the same score at No. 2 doubles, while
Connor Dove and
David Robres de Vecia ensured Adelphi (9-5) one point in doubles with an 8-0 win at No. 3.
Though Cannavera and Robres dropped just a combined four games in four sets in singles, it was straight sets wins for the visitors at three other flights that sealed the win. Ryan Foster defeated
Uladzislau Litvinchuk at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3 while Marco Leung claimed a 6-1, 7-5 win over
Roey Heymann, before Danny Waung finished the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sabin Adrian Savueluc, which led the Hounds to the 5-3 victory. Â
