Oceanside, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University men's tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Merrimack College Warriors on Saturday, 6-3, as the Panthers suffered their first Northeast-10 Conference defeat of the season.
In doubles, Adelphi's (6-3, 4-1 NE10)Â No. 3 team of
Connor Dove and
David Robres de Vecia took an 8-3 decision, the deciding flight came at No. 2 for the lead heading into singles. While
Roey Heymann and
Sabin Adrian Saveluc built a 6-2 lead in the set, it was the Merrimack (6-5, 4-0 NE10) tandem of Frank Vega and Alex Fedorov who reeled off six straight games to take the match and a 2-1 lead for the Warriors.Â
In singles,
Matteo Cannavera continued his strong play at No. 1 singles, cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 win, while David Robres de Vecia's strong rookie year continued with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 -- his seventh straight win. Nonetheless, the others four flights went to the Warriors in straight sets, sealing the defeat for the Panthers.
