Hookset, N.H. – Head coach Rebecca Fakas and the Adelphi men's tennis team were back on the court on Friday afternoon, hunting for the program's third straight Northeast 10 championship.
In the all-important doubles portion of the day, First Team selection Andrea Albiero and Viktor Hockl won their No. 1 flight in just 28 minutes, 6-2. Assumption was not far behind, winning the No. 2 match and knotting up the score. Spyridon Papageorgiou and Leo Silverston were locked in a battle in the final doubles match, taking the Greyhounds to a tiebreak. The Panthers were able to pull out a 7-6 (7-5) victory to give Adelphi the first point of the day.
Hockl stayed hot, putting the Panthers up 2-0 after a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2. NE10 Player of the Year Louca Bertone earned 6-3, 6-0 victory just minutes later.
Assumption rallied, taking the first set in three of the remaining matches. Silverston took set one in the No. 6 match, and the race was on. Adelphi was able to fend off the Greyhounds' push, taking the remaining second sets, and Silverston clinched the title for the Brown and Gold with a clutch 6-2, 6-4 win.
Hockl, Albiero and Silverston were named to the All-Championship Team with Hockl being the named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Fakas and the Panthers now await their fate in the NCAA Regional. The selection show will take place on Monday at 8:30 p.m. on the main page of ncaa.com.
