Oceanside, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University men's tennis team opened Northeast-10 Conference play with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Dolphins of Le Moyne College, 6-3, at the Point Set Racket Club on Thursday afternoon.
All three doubles matches went Adelphi's way to give the Brown and Gold a 3-0 lead in the match, but it wasn't without a fight. Both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles saw a margin of just one break of serve in the end, as the Panther pair of
Matteo Cannavera and
Uladzislau Litvinchuk took an 8-6 decision at top flight. Wrapping up action was
Connor Dove and
David Robres de Veciana at No. 3, as they edged the match in a tiebreak, 9-8(5) for the 2-1 lead.
Four victories in singles clinched the match for Adelphi, as
Matteo Cannavera led the way at No.1 singles with a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Adelphi's first point in singles play came courtesy of
Uladzislau Litvinchuk, who dropped just three games in his win at No. 2 singles, before David Robres de Veciana also won at No. 6 losing just three games, while
Roey Heymann rallied from a set down to win at No. 3
