West Hempstead, N.Y. -- A win for
David Robres de Veciana at No. 6 singles clinched the Adelphi University men's tennis team's first victory of the spring on Saturday, as the Panthers defeated the Philadelphia University Rams, 5-4, in non-conference action.
After leading 2-1 after doubles, the Panthers' win came down to the wire as they were pegged back from 4-2 to 4-4 in the match overall before Robres' win.
Matteo Cannavera was a dual winner for Adelphi, as he and
Uladzislau Litvinchuk partnered for a win at No. 1 doubles and he was victorious at No. 1 singles, while
Sabin Adrian Saveluc picked up his first two wins as a Panther, partnering
Roey Heymann for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, and winning his first singles match of the season 6-4, 6-2 as a follow-up.
After both
Connor Dove and Heymann were edged in tough three-setters to make it a winner-take-all sixth singles, Robres de Veciana rolled to a straight sets win at the flight to give Adelphi the overall win.
