Baseball Outslugs Bloomfield, 16-9, to Begin Florida Trip

Box Score

Davie, Fla. --  Combining for 24 total runs over three hours and 45 minutes, the Adelphi University baseball team struck the better end of a loaded offensive day with a 16-9 victory over Bloomfield College, opening their 10-game road trip with a hard-earned win in Florida.

Finding themselves in a 1-0 deficit before earning a chance to hit in the bottom of the first, the Brown and Gold (3-2) kept their spirits high, placing a two-spot on the board in the bottom half on a 2-RBI double hit by Brett Malm down the left field line. Adelphi (3-2) scored in all but two innings of the back and forth affair, giving starting pitcher Ed Baram an early six-run cushion on his 5.1 innings of work on the evening, in which he allowed four runs on eight hits with five strikeouts.

The Panther offense added a pair of runs in the second on three Bloomfield errors, before adding another three in the third on a combination of singles from Malm and Michael Stack, followed by a bases-clearing double off the bat of Zack Levinson that snuck down the right field line, earning him a pair of RBIs.

The Bears forged an attempt at a comeback in the sixth and seventh innings, as they added six runs total, three respectively, cutting the Panther lead to two on seven hits. However, Adelphi's highest scoring total came in the seventh inning where they added six runs to their total and extended their lead once again, taking advantage of defensive miscues by the hand of the Bears while seeing two-run triple from Robert Vani highlight action at the plate.

Eight of the nine players in the Brown and Gold's starting line-up recorded a hit, with four stroking two and senior Vani with three. Vani,  Steven Withers and Eric Hassell all scored a trio of runs in the victory,  while Michael Ceparano, David Butler and Michael Tarpey all threw scoreless action out of the bullpen.

The Panthers will look to keep their bats hot in a quick turnaround, as they take the field on Friday at 1:00 pm in a battle against  NE10 foe Stonehill College in Miami Gardens at St. Thomas University.
