Port Washington, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University men's tennis team opened its spring season with an 8-1 setback against the Bears of the New York Institute of Technology at the Port Washington Tennis Academy on Tuesday.
Matteo Cannavera was responsible for the lone point for the Panthers (1-1) as he moved to 2-0 at No. 1 singles on the season with a 6-4, 6-3 win over David Jiang in the top spot. Adelphi trailed 3-0 at the close of doubles play against the No. 28 team in the ITA-Oracle Division II national rankings and the top team in the East region, but tandem play could've gone either way, as Adelphi stayed close at No. 1 and No. 3, dropping both decisions by a margin of single break of serve, 8-6.
