Tempe, Ariz. - Senior
Rebecca Fakas appeared twice in the first edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) East Region rankings release on No.15, as the region's 10th-best singles player and eighth-ranked doubles team alongside junior
Karen Serina.
Fakas slotted in at No.10 in the East Region singles rankings, the highest-ranked player from a Northeast-10 school and just one of two NE10 players in the rankings. Saint Anselm's Jess Perkins came in ranked in a tie for the 20th spot. The Adelphi duo is also one of two NE10 teams to slot in the regional Top 10, ranking at No.8 behind Sofia Morais and Ana Sala of SNHU at No.7.
This fall, Fakas helped lead Adelphi to its third straight NE10 championship, clinching the championship with comeback victory over Stonehill's Victoria Barbetta, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No.1 singles to clinch the Panthers' third straight NE10 title, 5-4. The Little Neck, N.Y. native rallied from a set and a break down to earn the victory, and also posted a point alongside Serina in doubles with an 8-3 win over Alexandra Vo and Annelise Howick.
Fakas has a 16-2 record in singles this season, including a 14-1 mark in dual match play at the top spot. She's won her last 10 singles matches, including eight in straight sets. In doubles, Fakas and Serina have posted a 14-3 record this season, winning their last seven matches.
Outside of dual match play, Fakas was the No.7 seed in the ITA East Regional singles draw at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, where she reached the quarterfinals before falling to eventual runner-up Liza Dubrovskaya of Post University, while she and Serina reached the round of 16 in singles.
Adelphi's NE10 championship earned the Brown and Gold an automatic spot in this spring's NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
