Men's Tennis Falls to Fordham, 6-1

10/7/2017 3:35:00 PM

Bronx, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team got its first taste of dual match action this season at Fordham University on Saturday, where the Panthers fell to the Rams by a 6-1 final.

Matteo Cannavera scored the only point for Adelphi (0-1) on the afternoon with a tight win at No.1 singles, where he edged the first set but needed a match tiebreak to decide the affair against Fabian Mauritzson.

Fordham took the doubles point, as the match was played by Division I rules where the doubles decisions count as one cumulative point to the team's total.

Mauritzson and Lutwin de Macar cruised past Cannavera and Sabin Saveluc 6-1 in first doubles, while Finn Kemper and Jeremy Chung defeated David Robres de Veciana and Connor Dove in second doubles 6-3 to give the Rams a 1-0 lead in the match.

Adelphi pushed three total singles matches to three sets, but Robres and Dove were unable to clinch victory at No.2 and No.5, respectively, despite holding one-set leads.
