Altoona, Pa. -- Top five finishes from
Rebecca Gotterbarn and
Katelyn LaRocca helped power the Adelphi University bowling team to one of its best finishes of the season, as the Brown and Gold finished fourth at the Red Flash Invitational hosted by Saint Francis (Pa.) over the weekend.
The junior tandem of Gotterbarn and LaRocca finished fourth and fifth, respectively, for All-Tournament selection. They finished just 29 pins apart in their tradition total, as Gotterbarn averaged a 203 and LaRocca totaled a 197.2. Rounding out Adelphi's top finishers were
Lena Sorrentino and
Olivia Lopera, who finished 17th and 19th, respectively to give Adelphi four top 20 finishers. Â
The Panthers rolled to three Baker wins on the first day, defeating Penn State Altoona, Pitt-Bradford and the host Red Flash by nearly 200 pins or better in each game. Adelphi's good form continued out of the bye round on the first day, as the Brown and Gold closed out the first day's play with a commanding 944-590 victory over Thiel College to go a perfect 4-0 on the first day.Â
Adelphi's good form continued on the second day, as the Brown and Gold started off by edging St. Francis (NY) by 51 pins, 914-863, and continued with a win over New Jersey City University before suffering their first loss of the weekend in tight fashion to Norfolk State, 972-924. A win over Morgan State followed, and although the Panthers dropped their last match against the host Red Flash, a 7-2 record was good enough to sit atop the standings heading into the final day's play. Looking to bowl strongly on the last day, the Panthers finished in the top four of the bracket behind the hosts, Norfolk State and Mount Aloysius for their best overall finish of the 2017 calendar year thus far.
The Panthers are back in action at the Golden Bear Classic in two weeks, over the weekend of Feb. 10-12.
