Hackensack, N.J. — This past weekend, the Adelphi women's bowling team had a successful showing at the BVL Dr. Robert Cincotta Memorial, finishing in third out of nine teams.

The tournament was named in honor of Dr. Robert F. Cincotta, who passed away early last year. Cincotta was the head coach of the Adelphi bowling team from 2006-2014, bringing tons of success. He helped the Panthers capture the program's first-ever Northeast Conference Championship in 2013 to cap one of the finest seasons in Adelphi bowling history. The team set program records for the most wins over .500 (79-37), fewest losses and best winning percentage (.681). The Brown and Gold defeated 17 of 18 nationally-ranked opponents, including top-ranked Nebraska. Senior captain Samantha Morlack was named NEC Tournament MVP and an NTCA All-American, eight bowlers made the NEC Academic Honor Roll, seven landed on Academic All-NTCA teams, and the Panthers were lauded by the NTCA as one of 23 squads to compile a team grade point average of 3.2 or better.

Before the tournament began, seniors Giana Giampapa, Tiffany Wong and Carly Wu were celebrated.

The Panthers finished the day 3-1 in baker play, defeating. St. Thomas Aquinas, Dominican and Wagner.

Tiffany Wong had another impressive showing, averaging 19.52 pins per frame, with an 88 % fill percentage, 9.04 first ball average and 50% strike rate. The senior went 10-for-1 on single pin spare conversions and was 17-for-20 on makeable spares.

Marissa Funk continued her excellent freshman season, averaging 20.36 pins per frame with a 90% fill percentage. Funk had a 54% strike percentage, was 19-for-25 on all spare attempts and went 11-for11 on single pin spares. The freshman was 64% on double strike attempts in the tenth frame.

Erica Dejesus averaged 19.2 pins per frame, a 78% fill percentage, a 9.14 first ball average, recorded a 48% strike percentage and as the leadoff bowler had a 52% strike percentage.

Payton Hoffay was called on as a lefty specialist three times and all three times, came through for the Panthers. The shots were key in having enough pins to put Adelphi in third place.

Head coach Arthur O'Connor and the Adelphi bowling team will take a bit of a break to regroup for the ECC Championship, which will take place from Friday March 20 to Sunday March 22 in Hackensack, N.J.
