Staten Island, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University track & field team were back at the Ocean Breeze Complex this past weekend for the NYC Gotham Cup Invitational. Friday's meet consisted of multiple top 10 finishes for the Brown and Gold, as another school record fell thanks to the efforts of
Rebecca Celorio.
For the men's side, sophomore Michael Grady kicked off the distance squad with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter, clocking a time of 1:55.55, good enough to rank fifth in the Northeast-10 thus far this season. Later in the day, Grady continued his hot streak on the track, taking sixth in the 3,000-meter with a posted time of 8:37.91, which ranks him third in the conference.
Rounding out the distance trail in the men's DMR were Anthony Coccia, Dylan Picart, Anthony Seara, and Michael Scott, who crossed the line in fifth, while posting a time of 10:37.35.
Breaking her second school record of the season, Celorio highlighted the afternoon for the women's distance side. She competed in the mile hitting a 5:00.96, breaking the record by seven seconds and writing her second straight NCAA provisional time, having done so in the 3,000 last weekend. Celorio currently sits first in the NE10 for the women's mile.
Also cracking the top 10 in their respective events was freshman Victoria Major, who came away with a seventh place finish and a 1.65m mark in the high jump -- just short of her season best of 1.70m. Closing out the day, Mary Camarano took a tenth-place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.13.
The Panthers will split up this weekend, on Friday, Jan. 27-28 for the Tufts Stampede & Multi Invitational and the John Thomas Terrier Invite.
NOTES
- Over the course of the past two weeks, Celorio broke school records in the 3,000 -- 10:00.69 from 2014 -- and in the mile -- 5:07.62 from 2014 -- both held by Elizabeth Eickelberg ('14).
