Albany, N.Y. -- The Adelphi University swimming and diving teams returned to the pool to kick off the 2017 year over the weekend, traveling to the College of Saint Rose on Sunday. By the end of the afternoon, it was the host Golden Knights who came away with the sweep, as the men earned a 127-72 victory while the women were bested 149-61.

The Panthers had three wins in the meet overall, as the Brown and Gold recorded two individual wins and one relay win. On the men's side, John Rotolo scored victory in the men's 1,000 yard freestyle, posting a finals time of 10:45.28 to out-touch Saint Rose's Liam Daniel by over a second and a half. In addition, the quartet of Zack Vreeland, Noah Strong, Gerry Theophilidis and Peter D'Ortenzio teamed up to record a victory in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay.

The Panther group edged the tightest win of the afternoon, as they edged the Golden Knights' A-squad by .01 of a second. On the women's side, Danielle Dreiss was the only top finisher in the meet, as she dominated in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle thanks to a 5:30.06 time and a win by 10-plus seconds over second place.

The Panthers set several season-best in the meet, as Strong clocked a 22.80 time in the 50-yard freestyle to finish in second, while Greg Lucas clocked in at 2:06.43 for over two seconds better than his previous best in a second-place showing in the 200 IM. Theresa Mattei set a new best in the 200 IM as well, finishing fourth with a 2:28.34 finals time.

The Panthers are back in action on Thursday, Jan. 19 for their lone home meet of the season against the College of Staten Island at 6 pm.
