Men's Tennis Falls at Merrimack, 6-3

North Andover, Mass. -- In a rematch of the Northeast-10 Championship from a season ago, it was the Merrimack College Warriors who again prevailed over the Adelphi University men's tennis team on Saturday, claiming a 6-3 final on the campus of North Andover High School.

Doubles action opened up with Merrimack (5-7, 4-0 NE-10) taking second and third by identical 8-1 scores, but the top-flight pairing of Uladzislau Litvinchuk and Sander Brenner ensured that Adelphi (6-6, 5-2 NE-10) would not go into single play trailing 0-3. Despite being behind for much of the match, the senior duo rallied late, eventually taking the pro set in a tiebreak 9-8 (7-3).

In singles, Litvinchuk and Brenner got the Panthers two points at the top two spots, as each won in straight sets -- Brenner was particularly impressive at No. 2, dropping just one game against Nick Majewski. However, the Warriors moved one point away from victory as they claimed wins at No. 3, when Sebastian Zapata was forced to retire with an injury, and No. 6, as Alex Slobin proved to be too much for Connor Dove. In the end, the clinching match came at No. 5, as Daniel Khodosh was edged in an opening-set tiebreak before falling 6-1 in the second set, and the Warriors finished off the win as Miguel Belfort rallied for the three-set victory over Roey Heymann at No. 4 after dropping the opener.

The Panthers are back in action on Sunday, April 10, for a non-conference meeting with Fordham at 4 pm.
