Men's Tennis Adelphi Athletics

#3 Men's Tennis Blanks #6 Stonehill in NE-10 Quarterfinals, 5-0

Garden City, N.Y. -- After taking a 7-2 decision to close out the regular season just four days ago, the Adelphi University men's tennis team returned to the courts against the Stonehill Skyhawks in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference tournament. Again it was the Panthers coming away the victors, this time by a 5-0 final.

With the win, Adelphi (10-7) advances to the semifinals to face the No. 2 seeded Warriors of Merrimack College, in a rematch of last season's championship match.

The Panthers swept doubles play to lead 3-0, in an inverse of the regular season finale in which the Skyhawks took two of the three matches. Matteo Cannavera, who was crowned NE-10 Player of the Year earlier Wednesday for the second time in his career, partnered fellow All-Conference performer Uladzislau Litvinchuk to a dominant 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, while All-Conference performers Roey Heymann and Sander Brenner each had a hand in giving Adelphi a point at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Litvinchuk and Brenner gave Adelphi its two points in singles to clinch the match, as Litvinchuk recorded a double bagel at No. 2 singles, while Brenner posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 for the win.

"It was a nice start to the playoffs today, securing a spot in the semis on Friday," Interim Head Coach Joanna Haich said. "The men are excited for the semis against Merrimac, and a match that will give them a chance to change the result from last year's NE-10 final."
