Oceanside, N.Y. -- The Concordia College Clippers, ranked No. 8 in the latest edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings and first in the East Region, proved to be too strong to the Adelphi University men's tennis team on Saturday afternoon and claimed an 8-1 victory at Point Set Indoor Tennis Center.
The Panthers (2-3) dropped their third straight match this spring, but battled throughout against a talented Concordia squad. After dropping all three matches at doubles to fall behind 0-3 in the match, the Brown and Gold battled up and down the lineup. Playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this spring,
Uladzislau Litvinchuk gave Jui Mao a tough match and extended the second set to a tiebreak before falling, 6-3, 7-6(4), while the difference of just one service break in each set saw
Sebastian Zapata fall at No. 3, 6-4, 6-4. Freshman
Daniel Khodosh accounted for Adelphi's sole victory on the afternoon, as the freshman recorded his first collegiate victory after dropping the first set at No. 6 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
"It has been a tough weekend, but we learned a lot," said Interim Head Coach
Joanna Haich. "We now have a little over two weeks until our next match and we know exactly what to work on."
NOTES- The Panthers were ranked No.7 in the latest ITA East Region rankings, which came out on Feb. 17.
Adelphi returns to action on March 18, when they travel to regional foe Queens College for a 12 pm match.
