Bowling Posts Sixth Place Showing at Warhawk Classic

Kenosha, Wisc. -- Over the weekend, the Adelphi University bowling team headed to the Midwest to compete in the Warkhawk Classic, hosted by the the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater.  Rebecca Gotterbarn paced Adelphi in the event, posting a 17th place individual finish behind an even 200 average. Lena Sorrentino was the second Panthers in the individual standings, posting an average of 184.6 to finish in the 32nd slot. Three other Panthers also finished in the top 50 in the field in traditional play, as Laura Zaugg (34th) posted a high of 214 en route to a 174 average, while Kristina Etergineoso put together a 161 average in four matches to finish in 41st and Jackie Castelli posted an average of 193 in three games played to finish in 43rd.

On the first day of the tournament, the Panthers posted a 4-1 record in Baker play, getting off to a hot start by defeating Elmhurst, Stephen F. Austin, Tulane and the host Warhawks in the first four matches and breaking the 1,000 pin mark in three of the victories. Adelphi's final match of the day came against the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the Panthers were unable to record a perfect record on the day, as they fell by a tight 1,0005-944 pin decision. The Panthers struggled in traditional play on day two, as they were out-rolled as a squad by an average of 47 pins in defeats to Valparaiso, St. Francis (Pa.), Wisconsin Whitewater, Central Missouri, and McKendree.

Adelphi was drawn agaisnt the hosts on the final day of the tournament once again, posting a tight 4-3 victory over the hosts in Match C of the championship bracket. However, the Panthers were eliminated from the championship bracket by Stephen F. Austin in four matches, before the Warhawks got their final victory over the Brown and Gold on the weekend to finish in fifth and hand the Panthers a sixth-place finish. 

The keglers return to the lanes during the weekend of March 18-20 when they travel to Nashville for the Columbia 300 Music City Classic, hosted by Vanderbilt University.

- Each of the teams the Panthers defeated on the first day in Baker play were NTCA Top 10-ranked teams.
