Millsboro, Del. -- For the second straight tournament, the Adelphi University women's bowling team finished in the top 10 overall as the Panthers placed eighth at the Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore over the weekend.
Rebecca Gotterbarn once again paced the Panthers with her best showing of the season, placing eighth overall behind an average of 214.33.
Katelyn LaRocca was Adelphi's second finisher, posting a 195.67 average to finish in 21st, just .50 out of the top 20.
Olivia Lopera rounded out the top three with a 191.33 average to finish in 27th.Â
The Panthers began the first day of Baker play with a 100-pin decision over LIU Brooklyn, 916-816, before defeating Saint Francis (PA) by 70 pins, 937-867. After being set back in a loss to Monmouth, Adelphi rebounded with a win over ECC foe Franklin Pierce and another victory over Saint Francis (NY) to end the first day at 5-1 overall. The Brown and Gold kept things going to start day two, edging Sacred Heart by just 27 pins, 983-956, thanks in part to Gotterbarn's 241 and two plus-200 scores from LaRocca and Lopera.
After being edged out by Central Missouri by just 10 pins, Adelphi edged Kutztown by an even closer score, winning by a 947-938 margin, before defeating Stephen F. Austin by 22 pins with
Lena Sorrentino rolling a team-high 212. Adelphi split the final two matches of day two, falling to Tulane before defeating Alabama Birmingham to finish Saturday's play. At the close of three matches in bracket play against Alabama Birmingham, Central Missouri and Tualne, Adelphi rounded out the finish in eighth place.
The Panthers return to action in the new year, competing in the Kutztown Invitational over the weekend of Jan. 20th-22nd.
