Garden City, N.Y. - A new school record set by junior
Danielle Dreiss highlighted a 53-42 victory for the Adelphi University women's swimming team against Hunter College earlier this evening inside Woodruff Hall.
It was just the second event of the night where Dreiss rewrote her own school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle, set nearly a year ago against Staten Island. Tonight, the junior beat out her previous record by four seconds at 10:58.75 to win first place. Dreiss also claimed first place in the 500 distance behind a finish of 5:28.43. In the final event of the evening, Dreiss was the third leg of 200 free relay along with
Kelly Whelan,
Jacqueline Vani, and
Heather Miller that claimed victory with a 1:47.95 clocking.
Whelan and
Grace Zhang matched Dreiss with two solo victories of their own on the night. The first for Whelan came during a 2:07.13 time in the 200 free followed by a 100 free victory of 57.80. Meanwhile, Zhang touched the wall in 25.75 in the 50 free in addition to winning the 100 back in 1:03.37.
Visiting Hunter posted three individuals victories as well as the opening win in the 200 medley relay, however, the Brown and Gold were able to secure enough points for the slight 11-point win.
