All-Region Honorees | NCAA Championships
New Orleans, LA - For the second straight year,
Angela Mongitore has been selected for the NCAA Divsion II Indoor Track and Field Championships to represent the Adelphi University track and field program. This year, she will be joined by
Nick Filippazzo and
Ryan Healy. Additionally, the three student-athletes were among 14 Panthers selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honorees list for the 2014-15 NCAA Division II indoor track & field season.
Mongitore qualified for the 400 meter event once again, putting forth the seventh fastest time in the nation of 55.15 that she set back on Saturday, February 7 at the Ramapo Indoor Select meet. Last year, she finished sixth overall the NCAA Championships in the 400 with a time of 55.54 after running a 56.46 in the preliminaries. At the time, she becomes the first Panther to earn All-American honors since
Mychael Fabio did so in the same event at the Outdoor Division II National Championship meet in May of 2012.
Filippazzo qualified for the championship in the 5,000 meter behind a 14:22.72 time that he ran at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday, February 21, the 10th fastest time in the country. The senior is coming off an All-American performance this past fall at the NCAA Cross Country Championships where he finished 38th behind a 31:28.7 10k time. Meanwhile, Healy makes his first championship appearance in the 800 meter thanks to a 1:51.47 time he ran this past Saturday at the BU Last Chance Meet. The time slots him 15th in the upcoming event.
The three NCAA bound individuals also were listed with 11 other teammates on the USTFCCCA East All-Region Honoree list. Mongitore earned recognition in the 400 meter while Filippazzo was named for his performances in the 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter. Healy was honored for the 800 meter as well as the 4x400 meter relay where he was joined by
Sean Grady,
David Lewis, and
Momodou Sawaneh. Grady joined Healy on the 800 meter list while Lewis and Sawaneh were apart of the 400 meter. Sawaneh also added the 200 to his All-Region accolades.
Luke Pascale and
Mary Camarano both were named All-Region for the 60 meter hurdles while
Nicole Elarde joined the group for the 800 meter.
Brenna Gonsalves and
Emily Hagarty earned honors in the pentathlon. In the field,
Austin Drescher was named for the long jump while
Kip Jackson earned triple jump honors and
Kelly Clifford in the high jump.
The championships will be held March 13 and 14 in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The Birmingham CrossPlex and the University of Alabama in Huntsville will serve as co-hosts of the championships. Portions of the championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
All three competitors are scheduled for Friday with Mongitore in the preliminaries at 5:00 pm followed by the 5:50 preliminaries for Healy. Filippazzo is set for the 5k at 7:10 pm. If they advance to Saturday, Mongitore and Healy will run in the finals at 4:35 pm and 5:10 pm respectively.
