Oceanside, N.Y. - Playing its second straight match inside the confines of the Point Set Racket Club, the Adelphi University men's tennis team took a rematch of the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament quarterfinals, 7-2, over the Stonehill Skyhawks on Tuesday afternoon. The Panthers held a slim 2-1 lead after doubles, only to claim five singles matches in straight sets to take the win.
Matteo Cannavera and
Uladzislau Litvinchuk, named NE-10 Co-Rookie and Player of the Week, respectively, by the conference earlier today, again led Adelphi on both the doubles and singles courts. Cannavera partnered
Chiwete Njokanma to take an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, while Litvinchuk and
Sander Brenner took an 8-3 win for the Panthers' second doubles point at No. 2.
On the singles court, the two dropped just five games combined over the course of four sets, as Cannavera recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at top flight before Litvinchuk tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 to anchor the Panthers in solo play. Brenner, Njokanma and
Justin Vijungco were responsible for Adelphi's three other points on the afternoon, taking two-set wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Njokanma was up to the challenge in Adelphi's toughest singles match of the day, holding on to his service breaks in a 6-4, 6-3 win.
