Flushing, N.Y. - Ranked #1 in the NJCAA as the defending
NJCAA national champions, the ASA College men's tennis team swept the Adelphi University men's tennis team, 9-0, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
ASA (4-1), who also defeated Adelphi's fellow NCAA Division II member #15 NYIT earlier this month, won all three doubles matches by an 8-1 score to take a 3-0 advantage over Adelphi (2-3) in the match.
While the Panthers battled in close matches in singles play, the Avengers ultimately came out on top at each flight. At No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles,
Uladzislau Litvinchuk,
Chiwete Njokanma and
Justin Vijungco all won the first of their matches, before their opponents eventually came back to win in 10-point match tiebreaks. Just a few points decided things against Vinjugco and Njokanma, while reigning NE-10 Rookie of the Year Litvinchuk pushed his opponent to extra points in the final frame before ultimately falling, 12-10.
