Box Score 2 Riverside, CA – In their final stop of their Southern California tour, the Adelphi University softball team traveled to Riverside to take on the Lancers of California Baptist University. Despite holding the lead in all of game two, the Panthers dropped both contests to conclude the trip at 0-10. The home team, who were ranked in last week's top 25 poll, improve to 11-3 overall.
Krista King finished 5-7 at the plate, which included her first career double.
Brenna Martini also had a day, blasting her first career home run in game two, picking up two RBIs.
Lindsay Mapes completed 6.2 innings of work allowing seven hits and striking out six despite the loss.
Game 1Striking in the bottom of the first inning, the Lancers took a 1-0 lead on a solo shot by Krista Mann to center. The home team started the second inning with a double to left field and with two outs, managed to tack on another run as Sarah Murphy singled. Adelphi threatened to score in the top of the third inning as they loaded the bases on a Lancer miscue and a base hit by King, but were unable to capitalize as the home team grabbed the final out.
CBU scored two more runs in the third on two hits and left three runners on base as
Jasmine Ennabe worked her way out of the inning, striking out two along the way.
Nicole Camera took over pitching duties in fourth inning and completed 3.0 innings of work, letting up just three hits and holding the hosts scoreless through the remainder of the game, with a final score of 4-0 in favor of Cal. Baptist.
Game 2Panthers wasted no time in the top of the first inning as King picked up her first double of her career, down the left field line. Wink singled through the left side plating King to take a 1-0 lead. Keeping the rally alive,
Brenna Martini blaster her first home run of the season, scoring two to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
First hit for the Lancers came in the bottom of the third inning with two outs as Krista Mann dropped a single on the right field line with two outs. Behind her, Ashley DeVaere hit a shot to the right field fence; trading places with Mann and cutting the Panther lead to two, 3-1.
The Lancer defense held Adelphi to no more runs until the top of the sixth inning when Lewis singled to the left side to lead off the inning. With two outs,
Christina Palmenteri drove a ball up the middle to take back the three-run lead, 4-1. Three straight hits from the Lancers in the bottom of the seventh with no outs resulted in the home team cutting the deficit to one, 4-3. After loading the bases with two outs, a Panther miscue allowed two runs to cross home in dramatic fashion, taking the walk-off victory, 5-4.
