Bowling Finishes in Sixth Place at Track Kat Klash

Houston, Texas -- The Adelphi University bowling team headed west to compete in the Track Kat Klash, hosted by Sam Houston State University, in Texas over the weekend and bowled a sixth-place overall finish. Anchored by top-25 performances by Rebecca Gotterbarn and Lena Sorrentino, the Panthers were the only ECC team in the field of 10 teams.

The Panthers posted a 3-3 record on the first day of the tournament, posting a Baker average of 180.2 over the course of six matches. The Panthers defeated Stephen F. Austin by a 927-881 margin in their first match of the day, before falling narrowly to Louisiana Tech (861-854) and Sam Houston State (909-871). However, the Brown and Gold rebounded to post dominant victories in the next two matches, defeating LIU Brooklyn 926-877 before cracking the 1,000 pin mark against Texas Southern, 1,078-873. To close out the afternoon, the Panthers were again pitted against the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn, this time falling by an 880-811.

On the second day of individual play, the Panthers were defeated by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and twice by the University of Central Missouri before they came away with victories against Jackson State and Grambling College. Rebecca Gotterbarn paced the Brown and Gold on the afternoon, posting a 14th place individual finish and cracking the 200-pin mark in both of Adelphi's victories. Against Jackson State, Gotterbarn posted a 224 scoring before posting a high of 235 in the victory against Grambling, while Lena Sorrentino finished in 22nd place overall while being anchored by a 210 against Nebraska-Lincoln.

On the final day, Adelphi fell into the consolation bracket after falling to the Blackbirds of LIU, but defeated Texas Southern to set up a final meeting with Stephen F. Austin. Despite getting the victory earlier in the weekend, the Panthers were defeated 1348-1268 to finish in sixth place.

The keglers return to action in the New Year, when they travel to Kutztown, Penn. to compete in the Kutztown Invitational.
