Swimming Wraps Up Weekend At ECAC Championships; Men Place Seventh, Women Ninth

East Meadow, N.Y. – This past weekend the Adelphi University swim team took their talents to the Nassau County Aquatics Center, from December 4-6, for the ECAC Swimming and Diving Winter Championships.
 
Eleven teams on both sides made their way to the championships as the men's team placed seventh with a total team score of 325.50, while the women placed ninth with a score of 231.
 
Danielle Dreiss kicked off the weekend with a solid finish time of 18:14.02, which was good for fifth place in the third event, the 1650 free.
 
Peter D'Ortenzio, Zachary Mazur and Gerry Theophilidis came out strong in the 100 free, posting final times of 48.26, 48.31 and 48.90 respectively. These finishes allowed them to place seventh, ninth and 14th in the field of 74. Jacqueline Vani followed that up in the next event placing seventh in a field of 28 with a final time of 2:32.56 in the 200 breast.
 
Vani notched another respected time in the 100 breast as she took ninth place with a time of 1:10.79. Josef Victor Sarabia helped the men in the same event placing in a tie for fifth with a time of 1:00.69.
 
D'Ortenzio added to his successful weekend with an eighth place time of 52.30 in the 110 fly. Mazur also made his presence known in the 50 free as he posted a mark of 21.85, good for fifth in a field of 68.
 
D'Ortenzio and Mazur completed their weekend in the 400 free relay notching a final time of 3:15.51 with the help of Theophilidis and Ryan Mullin.
 
The Panthers will be back in the water on Saturday, December 12 at 1 pm as they are slated to face William Paterson University in the Center for Recreation and Sport.
