Montclair, N.J. - The Adelphi University swimming team took part in its second meet of the year on Saturday, falling at Montclair State University in both ends of a dual meet. The women were narrowly edged out 131-123 while the men were upended 147-106.
The afternoon started with the women's 200-yard medley relay claiming victory in the first event of the day.
Heather Miller,
Jacqueline Vani,
Kelly Reyes, and
Kelly Whelan edged out the Montclair 'A' team by less than a second with a 1:59.76 finish for the 11 points. Vani once again helped the Panthers claim first place points in event nine, the 100 breast, with a winning time of 1:12.02 before winning the 200 IM later on with a 2:24.22 finish. Miller also claimed a solo victory, finishing at 57.99 in the 100 free.
The men got on the board with their first win of the day as
Peter D'Ortenzio touched first in the 200 fly, edging out two from Montclair by a second. D'Ortenzio garnered the nine points with a 2:07.86 time.
Zachary Mazur brought back two first place finishes with a 22.56 time in the 50 free followed by a 100 fly posting of 56.93.
Three others also claimed first place points in events as
Amanda Crosby swam a 2:42.84 in the 200 breast followed by a 1:08.12 in the 100 fly by
Kelly Reyes for the women.
Josef Victor Sarabia converted a 2:13.85 time in the 200 IM into nine points for the men in the final solo event of the day.
Both relay teams finished the day with 11 points as the women's 400 free of Miller, Vani, Crosby and
Danielle Dreiss finished in 3:57.94 before
John Bellotti,
Gerry Theophilidis,
Ryan Mullin, and D'Orentzio combined for a 3:23.05 on the men's side.
The team returns to the pool inside the Center for Recreation and Sport on Friday, hosting Pace at 4:00 pm.
