Flushing, N.Y. - Two relay wins along with five individual victories highlighted Thursday night for the women of the Adelphi University swimming team while the men picked up one relay victory along with two solo wins.
Both 200 medlay relay teams kicked off the night with victories for the Panthers. The women's quartet of
Heather Miller,
Jacqueline Vani,
Kelly Reyes, and
Kelly Whelan put together a time of 1:58.94 followed by a time of 1:42.88 for
John Bellotti,
Josef Victor Sarabia,
Peter D'Ortenzio, and
Zachary Mazur.
Danielle Dreiss accumulated the most individual victories with two, both coming in freestyle events. In the 1,000 distance, she finished in 11:16.34 followed by a 500 time of 5:32.31. Also adding victories for the women's side were three legs of the 200 medlay team as Vani won the 100 breast at 1:13.72, Whelan posted a 2:09.57 time on the 200 free, and Miller finished in 1:04.26 for the 100 back victory.
Two parts of the men's relay team also took first place finishes during the night. D'Ortenzio posted a 100 fly time of 53.98 while Sarabia finished in 1:02.89 for the 100 breast win.
In the second to last event of the evening, the combination of Whelan, Dreiss,
Pinki Sherpa, and Miller wrapped up the final win of the evening for the Brown and Gold with a time of 1:48.03 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Adelphi returns to the pool next Saturday with a short trip to Kings Point to face the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 11:00 am.
