Hempstead Lake, N.Y. -- Playing alongside the women's team at the Hempstead Lake Indoor Tennis Center, the Adelphi University men's tennis team opened its season with an 8-1 win over the visiting Hawks of Saint Anselm College on Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (1-0, 1-0 NE-10) got off to aa quick start in doubles, sweeping play to move ahead 3-0.
Roey Heymann and
Connor Dove each got their first victories in a Panther uniform, as Heymann and
Sebastian Zapata won 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and Dove and
Sander Brenner partnered for an 8-5 win at third flight.
Matteo Cannavera and
Uladzislau Litvinchuk led Adelphi on the singles court, dropping four games combined en route to winning at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Cannavera, the Northeast-10 Player of the Year in 2014-15, got his season off to a near-perfect start with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Eric Howes. Brenner, Zapata and Heymann all contributed to the victory with singles wins as well.
