Jahelka, Froccaro Lead #1 Women's Lacrosse into NE-10 Championships

Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - Jackie Jahelka and Alexa Froccaro combined to score seven of Adelphi's 14 goals, leading the top ranked Panthers past fourth seeded Stonehill College, 14-5 in a Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinal on Saturday, May 3 at Motamed Field. With the win the Brown and Gold locked up a fifth straight appearance in the NE-10 Championship and give them an overall record of 18-0, while Stonehill slips to 12-7. 

Froccaro led all players with five points on four goals and one assist, while Jahelka chipped in three goals. Rachel O'Brien and Emily Keesling netted two goals each, while both Devan Crimi and Rachel Aitkens tallied one goal and one assist and Kate Beier picked up two helpers.

Danielle Jaycox led the Adelphi defense with three caused turnovers, while Meg Brown and Jacqueline Williams cuased two turnovers each. Felicia Mills controlled the center circle, grabbing five draw controls, while Brown picked up a game high five ground balls. Taylor Hayes collected her 16th win of the season with three stops.

The Skyhawks opened the game quickly, scoring the first goal of the contest just 3:33 into the action off the stick of Rebecca Matheson. However, the Panthers responded in style, with a resounding 6-0 run the was sparked by a O'Brien tally and included goals from Keesling, Jahelka and Froccaro. Stonehill snapped the Adelphi scoring streak with their second goal of the half at the 16:09 mark, courtesy of Matheson, 6-2. The Brown and Gold would answer back again, closing the half with tallies from Crimi and Froccaro, entering the intermission with an 8-2 lead. 

Adelphi kept the momentum going in the second frame, opening the period with five straight goals off the sticks of Jahelka, Aitkens and Froccaro to push the Panther bulge to 13-2. The final tally of the run came at the 11:01 mark off the stick of Jahelka. The visitors continued putting pressure on the Adelphi defense and broke through three times in the final 10 minutes, while the Brown and Gold countered with one goal, with the final score of 14-5 sending the Panther into the championship final.

The Brown and Gold out shot the Skyhawks, 39-11, won more draw controls, 14-6 and picked up more ground balls, 21-13, while committing less turnovers, 14-23.

The Panthers will face the winner of the second semifinal between #2 New Haven and #3 Saint Anselm on Sunday at 3:00 pm. Adelphi will be playing in their fifth straight NE-10 Championship final and are searching for their fourth title in five years and first since 2012.
