Salem, VA - The top ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team will face-off against #3 LIU-Post for the third straight season in the Final Four on Saturday, May 17 with a trip to the Division II National Championship game on the line in Salem, Virginia. The Panthers are bringing a spotless, 20-0 record into the contest, while the Pioneers are 18-1.
Adelphi trails LIU-Post in the all-time series by the count of 8-11, with the Pioneers winning the past three games, including the last two meetings in the National Semifinal. In 2012 the Panthers dropped a 14-11 decision to LIU-Post, and followed that up with a heartbreaking, 7-6 loss to the Pioneers a year ago in Maryland. These two teams have met seven times in the National Semifinal and the Brown and Gold are 4-3 all-time in those meetings.
The Panthes are powered by a potent offense, which features two players who have totaled over 90 points in
Devan Crimi and
Alexa Froccaro. Crimi has a team high and NCAA number two, 127 points, while Froccaro is just four points shy of her first 100 point season at 96. 2014 and 2013 Northeast-10 Rookie of The Years
Jacqueline Jahelka and
Rachel O'Brien round out hte Adelphi attack, posting 68 and 67 points to complete the high powered unit. Adelphi also has a deep midfield, featuring
Danielle Jaycox and
Kate Beier, who have combined to score 76 points.
Adelphi is not just offense, putting together a defense that is tops in the country in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 4.25 goals per game and causing a nation high 12.47 turnovers per game.
Jacqueline Williams lead that unit in caused turnovers with 31, while both Jaycox and
Meg Brown have caused more then 25 turnovers this season. Netminder,
Taylor Hayes has made 77 stops on the season, while holding the opposition to just 4.50 goals per game.
Another added dimension of dominance the Panthers bring to the field is at the draw, where Adelphi wins 16.32 draws per game, which is second in the nation. They are led by the talents of
Felicia Mills, who has shattered the single season draw controls record, more then doubling up the previous mark with 164 draws won, while Williams has picked up 55.
In all the Panthers are 11-4 in NCAA Division II Tournament action, with a Division II record five National Titles won, in 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2011 and at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 17 the Brown and Gold will be seeking their 12th tournament victory and a sixth trip to the National Championship game in 11 years.
