Baseball Falls to SNHU in NE-10 Championship, Abramowitz & Mejia Named to All-Tournament Team

This is the first time the Panthers have made it back to Championship Sunday, since winning the title in 2011.

Box Score Manchester, N.H. - After falling to the #3 NE Stonehill Skyhawks this past Friday, the Adelphi University baseball team won its way to advance to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship game Sunday afternoon to face hosts Southern New Hampshire. After battling through four scoreless innings, the home team put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth, which would be enough to capture the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference crown with a final score of 2-0 over Adelphi.

The Panthers conlcude their season with a 24-23 overall record and their first conference championship appearance since they won the crown in 2011. For their efforts over the weekend, seniors Richard Mejia and Matt Abramowitz were named to the 2014 All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the game.

Mejia posted a .417 average over the tournament and had a perfect fielding percentage through four games. Abramowitz appeared in two of the four games and concluded the weekend with a 2.08 ERA and one win, where in 8.2 innings of work he scattered seven hits for two runs and collected six strikeouts.

The Brown and Gold left a total of eight runners stranded on base throughout the game, unable to produce any runs on five hits. So. New Hampshire's Cole Warren threw eight-plus scoreless innings and received insurance runs from his team in the bottom of the fifth inning on four hits. The Penmen will learn their fate in the NCAA East Regional tournament after tonight's selection show,

Jonathon Mulford started on the hill for Adelphi and completed 6.0 innings, scattering five hits for two runs and struck out four. Alex Zykoff and Eric Hassell each had a 1-for-2 day at the plate, with Hassell drawing two walks as well in the loss.
