Box Score Manchester, NH - With a 5-2 decision over the Chargers of the University of New Haven, the Adelphi University baseball team stays alive in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament. The victory improves the Panthers to 23-22 overall as the Chargers slide to 23-13 and are knocked out of the conference championship tournament, after losing to hosts Southern New Hampshire University 1-8 on Friday afternoon.

Matt Abramowitz hurled a stellar 8.0 complete innings, scattering seven hits for just two runs from the Blue and White. He struck out five and only walked one, to be relieved by John Donnelly who threw one complete scoreless inning. Sparking the offense for the Brown and Gold was freshman and All-Rookie selection Eric Hassell who went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI. Vincent Sharkey had a 2-for-4 day and picked up one RBI in the win.

After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Panther bats got hot as they went on to score five runs in the top of the second. Nick Zito and Robert Vani registered back-to-back hits to lead off the inning. Hassell with his first hit of the game to left field plated Zito to take a 1-0 lead over the Chargers. With one out, a Vincent Sharkey single to the left side scored Hassell, followed by Brandon Stahl who was plated on Cliff Brantley fielder's choice.

With speed on the basepaths, Brantely swiped second to be later driven in on Kevin Hutzel's single through the right side to give Adelphi a 5-0 lead at the conclusion of the second inning. The next two innings remained scoreless until the home team was able to produce a run in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. Abramowitz shut the door on the Chargers, in the next two innings following those runs, holding the Blue and White to just two hits.

The win advances Adelphi to Game 9 of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship tournament, where they will play the loser of the So. New Hampshire/Stonehill game at 6:00 p.m. on Penmen Field.
