Box Score 2 Garden City, N.Y. – The Adelphi University played to a non-conference doubleheader split with visiting Holy Family earlier today at Ficke Field. The Panthers claimed game one 7-1 while the Tigers were victorious 1-0 in the nightcap.
The Panthers move to 14-10 on the season while Holy Family is now 16-8.
In the opener, the Brown and Gold were able to score four runs in the first frame without producing a hit. Two errors and a like number of walks plated all of the runs for the Panthers as they claimed the early 4-0 advantage. In the next inning freshman outfielder
Niki Barbato doubled to right center to score senior pitcher
Katie Andrews, affording Adelphi a 5-0 lead.
The Tigers pushed one across in the fifth in the attempt for a comeback, however, a run in the bottom half of both the fifth and sixth for Adelphi proved to be the final margin.
Freshman hurler
Lindsay Mapes picked up the win behind 6.0 innings of work with four strikeouts and just five hits and one run allowed. Andrews pitched an unblemished final inning while notching three runs on two hits from the dish. Barbato and senior outfielder
Courtney Sullivan each also produce two hits while sophomore infielder
Jordan Catalano was credited with two RBI.
Holy Family pitcher, freshman Bailey Walters, was the story in game two as the rookie earned her fifth win of the season behind a complete game shutout. Walters allowed just four hits while striking out the same number.
The Tigers scored the lone run of the contest in the opening inning as senior infielder Erin Corrado drove in senior infielder Danielle McDevitt. Senior infielder Samantha Borrelli also tried scoring on the play, however, sophomore catcher
Stephanie Barbaro held on during a collision at the plate for the out.
The Brown and Gold quickly returns to action tomorrow for a 3:00 pm doubleheader in Syracuse at Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne.
