Adelphi University Athletics

Garden City, N.Y. – Adelphi University's softball team was defeated by St. Thomas Aquinas, 3-1, on Friday morning in the NCAA Regionals but remains alive in the double-elimination tournament.

Series History:

• Prior to today's game, the programs had faced off 11 times dating back to the 2002 season.
• Adelphi (36-22, 27-9 NE10) is now 9-3 all-time against the Spartans (35-12, 18-2 ECC).

• Ellen Tarjan scored the only run of the game for Adelphi.
• Five Panthers each registered a hit in the game, including Emma Priest, Jaylen Wright, Maddy Moore, Ava Hershkovitz and Tori Parente.
• Jenna Plue and Lily Kenney combined for seven innings pitched, allowing three earned runs while striking out six batters.

• The visitors took an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame, as STAC's offense put together a pair of singles and a one-out walk to crack the scoreboard.
• In the second inning, Adelphi responded to tie the game. After Tarjan reached on a fielding error, the Spartans committed a throwing error on the next play, sailing a throw into right field and allowing Tarjan to come around and score.
• The opposition regained the lead in the top of the third, putting together a two-out rally that featured a walk and a pair of singles to make it 2-1.
• STAC extended its lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning, getting two runners on before an RBI double pushed the advantage to two runs.
• The Cats threatened in the bottom half of the sixth inning, getting two runners aboard via a walk and a hit-by-pitch, but both runners were left stranded.
• In their final at-bat, Parente registered a one-out single, but the Panthers were unable to rally.

• The Panthers will face the winner of Bridgeport/Southern New Hampshire in an elimination game, scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
