Baseball Downed by So. Connecticut Owls, 6-0

Despite matching hits with the visitors, the Panthers were unable to rally for any runs.

Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team played host to the Southern Connecticut State University Owls Wednesday afternoon in a Southwest Division contest. After previously beating the Blue and White several weeks ago, the Panthers fell victim to errors and dropped a 6-0 decision in favor of the Owls. The win improves SCSU to 12-9-1 overall and 2-1 in the division as Adelphi falls to 13-12, and 4-2 in divisional play. 

The Panther offense was shut down by SCSU righty Rocco Cundari, who held the home team to seven hits and seven strikeouts over 9.0 complete innings. Cliff Brantley was the only player to pick up more than one hit, going 3-for-4. Four of his teammates also registered one hit apiece in the loss. The Owl offense was led by T.J. Shea who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and designated hitter Joe Breen picked up three RBIs in the victory.

The Blue and White wasted no time getting on the board, registering one run in the top of the first inning as Matt Burns singled to get on base. He later stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. He would come around later to score on a groundout by T.K. Kiernan to lead Adelphi 1-0. 

Adelphi loaded the bases in the next frame on two singles and a walk, but were unable to push any runs across, stranding all three on the basepaths as the Owls recorded the final out of the inning. SCSU would strike again in the top of the second and for a third time in the top of the fourth. a Shea single and Breen home run would increase the Owl lead to four. 

The visitors took advantage of two more scoring opportunities to make the final score 6-0.

The team returns to action on Thursday, March 10 as they host Dominican College in a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m. on William J. Bonomo Memorial field. They will close out the week as they travel to Syracuse, New York for a series against the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights.
