Box Score 2 Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team played host to Northeast-10 Conference and Southwest divisional opponent American International College on Thursday afternoon in a rescheduled doubleheader. The Panthers left the field with brooms in hand as they swept the Yellow Jackets 8-7 and 10-3. The wins bring Adelphi to an even 10-10 overall record as they improve to 6-3 in NE-10 play. AIC falls to 6-13 and 1-2 in the division.
Game 1After the first two and a half innings went by scoreless, the Panthers jumped on the board in the bottom of the third with three runs on three hits.
Vincent Sharkey led off, reaching on an error to later be brought in by a
Cliff Brantley double. The lineup remained hot as
Kevin Hutzel and
Richard Mejia contributed back-to-back singles to make the score 3-0.
The Black and Gold were quick to respond as they tacked on one run in the top of the fourth on three hits, stranding one on base in the process. The Yellow Jackets pushed runs across in each of the next three innings to lead the Brown and Gold, 7-5. In classic walkoff style, Adelphi's offense produced three runs in the bottom of the ninth on two hits, as the AIC bullpen contributed three walks inthe first four batters.
Alex Zykoff hit the game-winning double, driving in two runs to top American Int'l 8-7.
Freshman
Eric Hassell went 4-5 with one run scored and two RBIs in the victory as upperclassmen Hutzel and Mejia each went 3-4 and combined for three runs and one RBI.
TJ Santiago started on the hill for the Panthers; in 5.2 innings of work the rookie scattered nine hits for five runs and struckout two. Closer

Game 2Not slowing down offensively, the home team produced two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Brantley drew a walked to be later driven in on a Hutzel double. Zykoff picked up his only RBI in the second game as he drove in Hutzel on a single to left field. AIC responded in their next at-bats, putting three runs on the board from five hits in the top of the second.
From that inning on, Adelphi's bullpen held the Yellow Jacket offense to just two hits and no runs for the remainder of the game as the Brown and Gold offense tacked on five more runs on 11 hits.
Donato Signore led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot over the left field fence to make the score 5-3 in favor of the Panthers.
A pitching change for AIC in the bottom of the seventh couldn't stop the hot bats of Adelphi as they increased their lead to seven, scoring three runs on five hits. Brantley went 3-3 with two runs scored and three RBI in the victory as Hutzel went 3-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Michael Ceparano got his fourth start and second win of the year, scattering six hits for three runs in 7.0 complete innings.
The team will travel to Massachusetts this weekend for back-to-back doubleheader action against Stonehill College on Saturday, April 5 and Bentley University on Sunday, April 6.
