Box Score Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University baseball team played host to non-conference opponent Dowling College of Oakdale, New York Thursday afternoon. The visiting Lions committed four errors, handing the home team a 7-4 victory. Adelphi improves to 19-17 on the season as Dowling slides to 25-11 overall.
Richard Mejia paced today's offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and one run scored.
Brandon Stahl went 1-for-4 but picked up two RBIs as well in the victory.
Jonathon Mulford started on the mound for the Panthers, completeing 6.0 innings and giving up six hits for just three runs.
John Donnelly closed out the game for the Brown and Gold, pitching 1.2 innings to earn his fifth save of the year.
Adelphi wasted no time getting on the board after they retired three Golden Lions in order in the top of the first. Mejia and
Kevin Hutzel registered back-to-back singles to get the inning started.
Nick Zito reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Hutzel. The Panthers wouldn't strike again until the third, but did damage as they tacked on three more runs after Dowling recorded two in the top of the third. The Blue and Gold scored in the top of the fifth and eighth, but were unable to stop the Panthers as the hosts scored in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
The Panthers will host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, in non-conference action.
