Game One New Haven and Adelphi played two scoreless innings, when the Chargers scored five runs on five hits in the third and then took advantage of two hits, including a three run home run over the wall in left center, to tack on four more runs in the top of the fourth, 9-0.
After a scoreless top of the fifth, the Panthers opened the bottom of the inning with a single from
Jordan Catalano. That was followed by another single, this time from
Mary O'Reilly, putting runners on the corners for Adelphi.
Christina Palmenteri flied out to right, but her drive was deep enough to plate Catalano. Then
Courtney Sullivan smacked a single to third, loading the bases for the Brown and Gold and bringing up Jackie Binstock. Binstock reached on a fielder's choice, scoring O'Reilly, followed by a walk from
Victoria Wink, loading the bases for the second time in the inning. Unfortunately, Adelphi was not able to capitlize, as a
Katie Andrews fielder's choice ended the inning at 9-2.
The game would end with the same score, 9-2, as both pitchers kept the bases clean the rest of the way, handing Adelphi a game one loss.
Danielle Cutuli led the way at the plate for Adelphi, going 2-4, while Andrews, Catalano, Sullivan, and O'Reilly managed one hit each.
Andrews also tossed the first four innings of the game, giving up seven hits and nine runs with three strikeouts.
Lindsay Mapes tossed three innings of one hit, no run relief, striking out four.
Game TwoThe Chargers struck early in game two, taking advantage of an Adelphi miscue and a double to right center, jumping out to a 1-0 lead. The Panthers knotted the game at one in the bottom of the third, putting runners on first and second with no outs, thanks to a Sullivan single and a Cutuli walk. Binstock then moved the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt, before Wink stroked a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Sullivan to scamper home.
Despite each teams best efforts, the score remained 1-1 into the seventh. Andrews put down the Chargers after just four batters in the top of the seventh, putting Adelph in position to pick up a walk-off win. Binstock was hit by a one out pitch, putting the winning run on first in the bottom of the inning. Wink followed that up with a hard hit ball to short, that was bobbled, giving the Brown and Gold runners on first and second. Andrews strode to the plate with two runners on and smacked a ball just deep enough into right field to score Binstock from second, securing a, 2-1 Panther win.
Five different Panthers picked up hits, including Andrews who was 1-3 with an RBI, while Sullivan was 1-3 with a run scored. Andrews tossed a complete game, six hitter, allowing one run and striking out three.
