Late Game Walk-Off Gives Baseball Split Against Le Moyne

Junior catcher Rich Cambria drove in the winning run of game two today against the Dolphins.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Garden City, N.Y. - A bottom of the ninth inning rally allowed the Adelphi University baseball squad a split today during a doubleheader with division rival Le Moyne. The visiting Dolphins claimed game one 9-1 while the Panthers came back to win the nightcap 8-7.

The Brown and Gold Northeast-10 Conference record goes to 12-8 with a 17-15 overall mark while Le Moyne sits at 6-4 in the league and 12-7 overall.

Facing a three run deficit at 7-4 going into the bottom of the ninth inning of game two, freshman infielder Michael Stack begin the rally with a single and later advancing to second on a wild pitch. After junior outfielder Cliff Brantley was hit by a pitch, senior infielder Brandon Stahl double to right center to plate Stack to make it 7-5. Following was a wild pitch that alllowed Brantley to score and make it 7-6. Two batters later, junior outfielder Nick Zito drove in Stahl with a single, tying the game at 7-7.

With two outs in the inning and runners on second and third, junior catcher Rich Cambria played the role of hero with a hit that landed in front of the Dolphin leftfielder that scored senior outfielder John Campbell, who entered as a pinch runner, and giving the Panthers a 8-7 victory.

In the opener, Le Moyne scored nine unanswered runs before Adelphi tallied one in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Dolphins scored their first two runs in the top of the second before scoring seven runs extending from the fifth through eighth innings. 

On the day, Zito and junior outfielder Alex Zycoff each notched three hits while Zito and Brantley knocked in two runs a piece. Futhermore, junior pitcher Nikolas Batas earned the victory in game two by pitching the final two innings with three strikeouts.

The two teams square off in the series finales tomorrow, with a 1:00 pm first pitch at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
