All Around Performance Leads Baseball to 6-2 Win Versus Pace

Freshman outfielder Eric Hassell drove in three runs on a 4-for-4 performance.
Box Score Garden City, N.Y. – Three early runs made the difference in a 6-2 victory for the Adelphi University Baseball team today against visiting Pace on Bonomo Field.

The Brown and Gold improve to 16-14 overall and 11-7 in the Northeast-10 Conference while the Setters slip to 3-12 in the league and 8-17 overall.

Freshman outfielder Eric Hassell provided a big spark in the middle of the lineup with a 4-for-4 day that included three RBI. Junior outfielder Nick Zito added three hits as the Panthers compiled 12 as a group. Freshman T.J. Santiago earned the win on 6.0 strong innings with seven strikeouts.

Pace claimed a 1-0 lead in the first half inning before Adelphi posted three runs in the bottom half to jump out. The first two runs were scored on two separate balks before Hassell drove in Zito with a single to right field.

The Setters cut into the lead at 3-2 in the third inning. However, the Panthers created some cushion as Hassell drove in his next two runs in the fifth inning followed by senior catcher Kyle Ambury driving in Zito for the sixth and final run of the game in the seventh. Zito and senior infielder Richard Mejia each score two runs on the day.

The Brown and Gold return to Bonomo Field this Friday for a doubleheader versus Le Moyne, scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
