Men's Tennis Sweeps Singles to Defeat Le Moyne, 8-1

Panthers drop just one set en route to six singles victories.

Sander Brenner led Adelphi in the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team used a six-match sweep in singles to record an 8-1 win over visiting Le Moyne College on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers also recorded two 8-0 wins in doubles play to take the lead and never looked back to improve to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Dolphins end their regular season at 5-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Despite dropping the match at top flight doubles, the Panthers rallied in a big way as they did not drop a game at second or third doubles to lead 2-1 going into singles play in the match. Chiwete Njokanma and Justin Vijungco recorded an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles for the second straight match.

In singles play, the Panthers swept all six points for just the third time this season. Sander Brenner snapped a personal six-match losing streak in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over James Gayvert at No. 1 singles, while Uladzislau Litvinchuk and Vijungco continued their strong play at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Each dropped just a singles game en route to wins. Sebastian Zapata came out the winner in the toughest match for Adelphi on the day, as he rallied after dropping the first set tiebreak to defeat Benjamin Spoor at No. 2 singles, 6-7, 6-2, 10-5.
