Baseball Picks Up One Win in Saint Rose Series

Cliff Brantley had a 3-for-5 day at the plate with two RBIs and two runs in the Panthers 8-7 victory.
Box Score Albany, N.Y. - In the final game of the series against the College of Saint Rose, the Adelphi University baseball game will travel back to Long Island with a win as they settled an 8-7 decision Sunday afternoon. The victory pushes the Panthers to a 15-14 overall record and 10-7 in the Northeast-10, as they stand at 5-4 in the Southwest Division. The Golden Knights fall to 11-17 and 5-2 in divisional play.

Cliff Brantley, Richard Mejia and Nick Zito each contributed to the 8-7 victory, combining for 10 of Adelphi's 18 hits as they each picked up two RBIs. Michael Cranston picked up his second win of the season, scattering four hits for two runs and struck out five batters. John Donnelly relieved Matt Abramowitz in the bottom of the ninth facing four Golden Knights, earning his fourth save this season.

After going down 3-0 to the home team, Adelphi matched the three runs in the top of the third inning on five hits and two Saint Rose miscues. Brantley led off the inning with a bunt for a base hit to be later driven in by a Mejia single, followed closely by Brandon Stahl who came around to score on an error by the rightfielder. Back-to-back singles by Zito and Eric Hassell would force the hosts to make a pitching change.

The Panthers would tack on two more runs in the fourth and the fifth and one more in the top of the seventh, but not before Saint Rose scored four more runs for themselves. The Adelphi bullpen shut down the Golden Knights in the final two frames to earn an 8-7 win for the Brown and Gold.

The squad will host Pace University in a single game on Tuesday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. on William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. If you can't make it to the game, livestats will be available here.
