Box Score Manchester, NH - The second ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team used an 8-0 run during a 16 minutes stretch that ended the first half and opened the second frame to bust open a 7-6 game on the way to a 21-11 victory, Saturday, April 12 in Manchester New Hampshire. With the win Adelphi improves to 13-0 overall and 8-0 in Northeast-10 play, while the Hawks slip to 9-2 and 6-2 in conference.
Devan Crimi continued her stellar play, scoring five goals and assisting on four others to post a team-high nine points. Jackie Jahelka scored six goals on just seven shots, while
Alexa Froccaro found the back of the Hawk net on three occassions and chipped in an assist.
Danielle Jaycox and
Emily Keesling were the only other Panthers with double digits goals, with two tallies each, while
Rachel O'Brien had one goal and one assist.
Jacqueline Williams,
Meg Brown and
Felicia Mills paced the defense with two caused turnovers each, while Mills also had a game-high 14 draw controls. Brown gobbled up a team-high four ground balls and Jahelka, Froccaro and
Kate Beier were just a step behind with three each.
Taylor Hayes played the fill 60 minutes in net for the Panthers, stopped four shots in her 12th win of the season.
Keesling and Crimi pushed Adelphi out to a 2-0 lead, just 2:03 into the contest, but the host Hawks answered back with a goal of their own, 2-1. Saint Anselm and Adelphi would trade a goal, when an O'Brien goal and two more off the stick of Jahelka, put the Panthers on top 6-2, with 18:22 remaining in the first. However, the Hawks came to play, scoring four of the next five goals and cutting the Brown and Gold cushion to just one, 7-6 with 11:59 left in the half.
With 8:21 left to play in the first frame, Crimi scored unassisted to ignite a 8-0 run, that featured three goals from Froccaro and two each from Crimi and Jahelka. and ended on a Froccaro tally with 22:52 left in the game. The run blew the game wide open and left the Panthers with a 15-6 bulge, a margin that Saint Anselm could not recover from, scoring just five goals the rest of the way, as Adelphi collected a 21-11 win.
Adelphi doubled up the hosts in shots, 45-22, held a 19-16 edge in draw controls and picked up more ground balls, 23-17.
Coach's Comments:"Our defense played very hard today and did a great job controlling the draw, which was critical," said Head Coach Rob Grella. "Overall it was a good effort for us and we are exicted to get back out on the field tomorrow!"
